Khidki: Looking into the Oblivion
A documentary by Neha Lal, Ramsha Alam, Apoorva Misra, Neha Sen, Nandini Ray and Sabika Abbas
The documentary is an attempt to deconstruct the complex, multifaceted relationship the residents of Khidki Village share with the monument in the contemporary consumerist culture. The film opens with an exploration of Khidki Masjid which despite being declared as a protected monument by the ASI is a picture of obscurity and neglect. The monument has undergone a drastic change, both in terms of character and appearance due to the mushrooming of urban colonies around its compound. Looking into the oblivion, Khidki opens up wider questions of the dichotomous existence of the monument as it stands in an urban village, at times merging with the landscape, while at other times standing out starkly as an isolated space.
