Admission to CTPB Diploma Course

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Lady Shri Ram College For Women. Thank you for your interest in our college. Every year a large number of students apply for admission to the college and we hope to make the admission process smooth and hassle free. Please read this section carefully to get acquainted with the admission requirements and procedure.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO LSR

• Candidates who have passed the Senior School Certificate Examination (Class 12) of the Central Board of Secondary Education or a recognised equivalent examination are eligible to apply. The list of equivalent examinations may be seen on the Delhi University website http://www.du.ac.in.

• Since the medium of instruction for all courses except for Hindi and Sanskrit is English, the aggregate required for admission will be calculated on the basis of marks secured in English and three other elective subjects. For admission in Sanskrit and Hindi, a student has the option of including any language other than English in her ‘best four’ total.

• For admission to Commerce or Economics, one of the subjects in Class 12 must be Mathematics in which students must attain the minimum required marks as indicated in the ‘Guidelines for Evaluation of Merit’.

• Apart from these general criteria, different departments have evolved their specific criteria. These details are available in the ‘Guidelines for Evaluation of Merit’.

• Meeting the above requirements does not automatically guarantee the applicant’s admission to the course of her choice. Canvassing of any kind will disqualify the candidate. The decision of the Admission Committee and the Principal in this regard will be final.

PRE-ADMISSION COUNSELLING

A Pre-Admission Counselling unit will be set up in the college from the 3rd to 14th June, 2013 to answer queries and explain the guidelines and criteria for admission. Students are advised to visit the unit between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. (Monday to Friday) between the above mentioned dates. This interaction will help them understand the process and facilitate their admission.

CALCULATING ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSION POSSIBILITIES

Marks are calculated on the basis of a language (English) and three best elective subjects. (Only one vocational course can be considered and will carry a negative weightage).

• Along with English, a second language can be considered as one of the other three elective subjects provided that the mark sheet states that this other language is an elective course.

• To calculate the aggregate, candidates must read the Lady Shri Ram College ‘Guidelines for Evaluation of Merit’carefully. It is important to be familiar with these as there are different requirements and special criteria for individual courses that have to be kept in mind while calculating the aggregate for consideration for admission.

• Admission to the four year undergraduate degree course will be based on Discipline-1 (Major Discipline).

For example, if a student wishes to choose Economics as her Discipline-1 course, her marks should fall within the ‘cut-off’ of that course.

COLLEGE GUIDEINES FOR EVALUATION OF MERIT FOR ADMISSINS 2013-2014

Only one vocational subject can be included while computing the aggregate for determining merit for all Honours Courses. From the aggregate, negative weightage of 4% will be deducted for each one of the following vocational subjects.

Agriculture, Applied Arts, Basic Nutrition, Body Perfection & Yoga, Calligraphy, Commercial Art, Cooking, Cosmetic Chemistry & Beauty Care, Cutting & Stitching, Dance, Domestic Science, Fine Arts, Financial Market Management, Food Preparation/Food Preservation, Graphics, Hair Dressing, Home Economics, Home Science, Insurance, Library Science, Marketing, Music, Office Management & Secretarial Practice, Painting, Physical Education, Salesmanship, Sculpture, Textile Designing, Typing, Weaving, Web & Multimedia etc.* (see Note 1.* below).

B.A./B.Sc. HONOURS COURSES

In addition to the declared cut off percentages, the following additional requirements/criteria will also be followed:

Notes: 

1. *The negative weightage will apply, if the subjects are taken into account, when computing the aggregate score for admission. Departmental specifications will also apply as indicated.

2. The Principal/ Admission Committee reserves the right to modify/change these guidelines before the process of admission begins, in the light of communications from the University of Delhi in this regard.

3. Date of Interview/Test/Field Trials for Sports and Extra Curricular activities will be posted on the College Notice Board only.

The fulfillment of any one of the above requirements by the Applicant does not automatically entitle her to admission to an Honours course in the subject of her choice. Admission will depend on the applicant position in the merit list (to be put up on College Notice Board), prepared by the College for the admission to a particular Honours Course, performance in the interview and the written test if conducted by the College. A fixed number of seats are earmarked for the Honours and Pass Courses.

CENTRALISED ADMISSION ENTRANCE TEST FOR B.EL.ED.

Admission to the Bachelor of Elementary Education Programme is through an Entrance Examination conducted by the CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION (CIE), at the Main Campus of the University of Delhi. ADMISSION TO CTPB PROGRAMME(POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME)

Innovation and Inclusivity

The one year Post Graduate Diploma in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding is an integrated programme combining classroom learning, fieldwork and action research. Offered to undergraduate and graduate students, NGO workers, media persons and grassroots’ workers, the course seeks to equip potential peacebuilders with the knowledge, skills and expertise to engage in processes of Peacebuilding.

It provides a context for students to build mentoring relationships with renowned practitioners and scholars in the field. Drawing on related developments in the disciplines of peace and conflict studies, sociology, psychology, international relations, development, media studies and economics, the course uses an interdisciplinary approach to explore the causes of, and responses to, conflicts at various levels, including the intra-personal, interpersonal, inter-group, national and international.

The Diploma Programme requires students to:

a. Complete Course work (Four papers: three in the 1st Semester and one in the 2nd Semester)

b. Be placed with an organization working in Conflict Resolution or related fields (for at least two months)

c. Submit a research thesis (of publishable quality) and participate in a viva

d. Participate in a research methodology workshop

ADMISSION TO M.A./ M.Sc.

Admission to the M.A./M.Com. Course is done through the respective Faculty of Arts/ Commerce, University of Delhi. The College offers the following subjects at the Post-Graduation level: English, Hindi, Mathematics, Statistics, Philosophy, Political Science, Sanskrit, History and Commerce. Students seeking admission to such courses are first required to register themselves with the Faculty of Arts/ Commerce. The College will receive applications only from those students who have registered themselves and obtained an admission slip from the respective Faculties. Further information may be obtained either from the office of the University Department concerned or the respective Faculty of Arts/ Commerce of the University.

OTHER IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS/GUIDELINES

Disciplinary Norms

On admission, every student of the college is required to sign a declaration that she submits herself to the disciplinary jurisdiction of the Vice-Chancellor and the personnel of the University and the College who may be vested with the authority to exercise discipline under the Acts, Statutes, Ordinances and Rules of the University / College. Each student will be given a handbook containing the rules and regulations of the college. In addition, students will sign an affidavit declaring that if a student is found indulging in ragging she will face disciplinary action according to the University Ordinance.

Orientation

The Orientation is an invaluable introduction that provides an insight into the functioning of the college before the commencement of classes. It is designed to make entrants feel more at home in their new environment. Attendance at the Orientation is compulsory. Those admitted to the college must check the date for Orientation on the day of admission.

Migration

Migration to this college is not permissible in any year.

Admission to any Semester/Year Other Than The First

No direct admission to any semester/year other than the first semester is permissible by the University of Delhi.

Special Categories

LSR welcomes students with special needs and within logistical constraints, tries to provide every help to facilitate their years in College. 22.5% of the total seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the SC/ST category, 27% are reserved for candidates belonging to the OBC category and 3% seats are reserved for Persons with Disability (PwD). The College also offers a number of scholarships and freeships, on the basis of merit and need, to admitted students of the disadvantaged categories.

Gap Year Cases

Students who have had a gap in their education must bring all original documents such as admission slips, admit cards for any examination taken or certificates of courses attended in the gap period to be eligible for admission to the undergraduate course for which they qualify. Such students should meet the Convenor of Admissions.

Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction in all courses is English, except for Sanskrit Honours and Hindi Honours, where the medium of instruction is Hindi.
